Management Accounts - essential guides for good business decisions

Management accounts are often overlooked by smaller businesses, but they provide vital insights into a business’s performance and provide up to date information to assist with business decisions.

Management accounts give up-to-date financial information about your business allowing you to make informed business decisions and direct the future of your business.

At SFS Accounting we can prepare monthly management accounts for your business tailored to the reports that you would find useful.

1. Profit & Loss Reports with comparisons to prior periods revealing trends allowing you to plan for regular occurrences.

2. Balance Sheets showing you the current assets and liabilities of your business and movement from prior periods. What the business owns and what the business owes.

3. Aged Creditors and Debtors Reports giving detailed information about your payables and receivables

4. Budget Reports giving information about actual v budgeted income/expenses for the period to help you check current performance against expectations and goals.

5. Cash flow forecasts providing an overview of your cashflow and allowing you to plan ahead for known costs.

Watch out for HMRC Scams

It could be a scam if it:

1.     is unexpected,    2.   offers a refund, tax rebate or grant,   3.   asks for personal information like bank details,   4.    is threatening,   5.  tells you to transfer money

You can be sure that HMRC will:

1.   only ever call you asking about a claim or payment on a debt that you already know about,   2. never leave a voicemail threatening legal action,   3.  never give the reason for a call on a voice message

If you receive any communication through WhatsApp claiming to be from HMRC it’s a scam.

SEISS 4th Grant

The online claims service for the fourth grant will be available from late April 2021 until 31 May 2021.

If you are eligible, HMRC will contact you in mid-April to give you your personal claim date. This will be the date that you can make your claim from. See webpage below for further information.

Third grant of the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS)

For self-employed clients, the third SEISS grant closes for claims on Friday 29 January. You must claim on or before this date.

Similar to the first and second SEISS grants, the third SEISS grant will also be subject to Income Tax and self-employed National Insurance. Alongside the first and second grants, the third SEISS grant should be reported on your 2020/21 Self Assessment tax returns (filing deadline 31 January 2022).

Where you also claim Universal Credit (UC), the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme grant should be reported to DWP in the month the grant is paid and may affect the amount of UC received.
